Shots vs Fast Bags vs Full Bags

Patients often ask about the difference between getting a shot and getting a vitamin IV. These two services are both valuable in their own ways, depending on what your health goals are! Our shots are great for a quick and easy boost. We have 16 proprietary nutrient blends for all types of health goals, from increased energy to immune health to detox. These injections go directly into the muscle and slowly absorb into the bloodstream through tiny blood vessels called capillaries. Our shots are helpful when you don’t have the time to get a vitamin IV.

A vitamin IV has more room for nutrients than a vitamin shot, so it is helpful when you need a lot of support fast! We recommend coming in for a vitamin IV at the first sign of a cold, or whenever you’re feeling fatigued or lacking energy. The nutrients in a vitamin IV go directly into the bloodstream and are delivered to the tissues that need them most.

Here at Spark Health, our “fast bag” vitamin IVs take about 15-20 minutes to drip, and all the B vitamins, vitamin C, and essential minerals you need to stay in tip-top condition. We offer formulas that address a variety of health goals, from weight loss to energy to stress reduction.

Full size IV bags are even more effective because we can fit about three times the amount of vitamins, minerals and amino acids in them! We require a quick appointment with one of our doctors, simply to make sure it is safe for you to receive a full size bag. During this brief appointment, we can also customize a formula specific to your health goals!

Sparkle and Glow and Collagen Builder

Paralax

The Sparkle and Glow, Collagen Builder, and Acne Support are

Spark Health’s skin focused IV therapies. The Sparkle and Glow

is the ultimate IV for overall skin health. It highlights vitamin C,

amino acids, zinc and B vitamins needed for clear, youthful skin. It

is not easy to absorb adequate nutrients from diet and

supplements alone which is why I am such a fan of adding

nutrient IVs to ensure you are getting 100% nutrient absorption. If

you don’t have time for a full sized IV the Collagen Builder and

Acne Support bags are great options to support your skincare

concerns. The collagen builder was designed to highlight two key

nutrients needed in collagen formation – vitamin C and glycine.

The acne support includes L-carnitine and vitamin B5. These

nutrients help to balance the keratinocytes or the oil producing

cells involved in acne formation.

Vitamin C

Vampire Facial San Diego

Video Transcript:

Vitamin C is an essential nutrient when it comes to maintaining
optimal skin health. It is naturally found in high concentrations in
the skin and is a great addition to anyone’s skincare routine. Your
skin needs vitamin c for collagen synthesis, protection from
oxidative damage, and wound healing. I like to incorporate vitamin
C internally as well as topically for most skin types. As a part of
your topical routine, vitamin C is best used in the morning to
protect from any sun damage you may be exposed to during the
day. It is crucial for anyone concerned with fine lines or wrinkles
because at higher concentrations when vitamin C is applied
topically it enhances collagen formation. It also works as a
depigmentating agent and anti-inflammatory making it a great
addition to anyone dealing with acne, rosacea, or
hyperpigmentation. If you would like to learn more, give us

the highest standard of the profession as specialists in naturopathic

oncology.

The Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians initiated a

credentialing process for naturopathic doctors in 2006. A separate and

independent board, the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology (ABNO),

was established to oversee the process and work with the Board of Medical

Examiners to develop standards for credentials, including training

requirements, application process and board certification exams.

Naturopathic doctors who meet standards representative of advanced

experience and knowledge in cancer care are eligible for board certification

in Naturopathic Oncology. Qualifying doctors whose applications are

accepted must have completed a 2-year residency focused in naturopathic

oncology or have been in practice for at least 5 years with 5000 oncology

patient contact hours and submit cases for review by designated

examiners. All applicants must then pass a board certification exam in

order to be awarded the status of Fellow by the American Board of

IV THERAPY FOR WEIGHT LOSS

IV Nutrient Therapy

By Dr. Samantha Larkin, ND – Associate Doctor and Manager of the Spark Health IV Program

Want to take your weight loss & detox journey to the next level? Regular nutrient IV therapy can improve your results if combined with a healthy diet and exercise plan! We have multiple options for weight loss vitamin IVs here at Spark Health. Our weight loss Fast Bag IV is a fantastic choice for new patients, or those who would like an IV experience under 20 minutes. The weight loss Fast Bag IV contains all of the B vitamins (including B12), vitamin C, calcium, magnesium, and the featured weight loss nutrients, L-carnitine and MIC. For those who are interested in full size vitamin IV bags, the Body Sculpt Plus bag is a fantastic formulation that packs an even bigger punch!

WHAT ARE THE BEST IV NUTRIENTS WHEN IT COMES TO WEIGHT LOSS?

L-carnitine- Naturally found in red meat, fish, poultry, and milk, L-carnitine has been shown to increase the function of mitochondria, the energy-producing machines that are found in our cells. L-carnitine revs our metabolism, and is also known to support our nerves, brain, and heart. Studies have shown that people who have received carnitine lost more weight and showed a decrease in body mass index (BMI) compared to those who did not receive carnitine. (8)

MIC (Methionine Inositol Choline)- MIC is known as the ‘weight loss’ nutrient combination, helping with fat burning and speeding up metabolism. Most people have great results when combining MIC with a nutrition and exercise plan geared toward weight loss. Methionine, an essential amino acid, helps the liver break down fat. Methionine also acts as an antioxidant and helps the body produce its own glutathione. Inositol improves insulin sensitivity in the body and is critical for fat metabolism and fat-burning liver function. Choline regulates cholesterol and fat transport around the body, preventing it from depositing in one place. Those who do not eat milk or eggs may be at risk of choline deficiency.

Methylcobalamin (B12)– Vitamin B12 helps with the conversion of your food into energy. Vitamin B12 may be lower in people with gastrointestinal disorders or celiac disease, and those following certain diets or taking certain medications. (3, 4, 5, 6) Studies have also shown that B12 deficiency is more common in those who are overweight or obese. (1,2)  At Spark Health, we use Methylcobalamin, the form of vitamin B12 that can be utilized immediately by the body. This is crucial for those who have MTHFR genetic mutations that make it difficult to convert certain vitamins into their active forms. Supplementation of Methylcobalamin also supports the immune system, so you can stay well and continue to exercise and eat healthy. (7)

Glutathioneis a crucial IV component for anyone who is on a weight loss or detox protocol. As we burn fat, we are also releasing many toxins into the bloodstream. Glutathione is a fantastic antioxidant, and can be thought of like a pacman that goes into the bloodstream to chomp up toxins. A glutathione push may be added to any of our Fast Bag IVs, and is included with all of our full size IV bags!

ARE THERE OTHER OPTIONS, IF I DON’T WANT TO GET A NUTRIENT IV?

If the idea of an IV bag is overwhelming, come to Spark Health today to try one of our B12 shots! We go above and beyond when formulating our shots, adding much more than just B12. Try our “Body Sculpt” Shot for weight loss. This shot includes B12, L-carnitine and MIC.

Also consider making an appointment with one of our naturopathic doctors to discuss your weight management / detox goals and other health concerns. There are many variables that contribute to weight gain, including hormonal changes, certain infections, and other imbalances. Our naturopathic doctors are experts in optimizing results and customizing a weight loss plan that is personalized for your body’s unique physiology.

IV Therapy For Improved Energy

Energy

By Dr. Samantha Larkin, ND – Associate Doctor and Manager of the Spark Health IV Program

Are you looking to support your energy levels naturally, without the need for caffeine or energy drinks? Are you sick of the mid-day slump at work? Are you looking to improve your stamina at the gym? If you answered yes to any or all of these, you are the perfect candidate for IV therapy!

IV therapy is a fantastic way to support natural energy levels. IV nutrient therapy provides nutrients at 100% bioavailability. The nutrients go directly into vein, bypassing the digestive tract and preventing the need for the body to process the nutrients before delivering them to target tissues. Oral nutrients are often poorly absorbed, if absorbed at all!

A lot of patients ask if they will feel ‘wired’ when they have an energy IV. They often ask if it will be like an energy drink, and seem concerned they will be unable to sleep. IV vitamin therapy for energy levels utilizes only natural substances that the body already recognizes and produces itself, creating a more calming energy that is much different than a cup of coffee or an energy drink. Although everyone has unique physiology and nutrient needs, the effects from a vitamin IV last approximately 7 days for most people.

If you are a new patient, or a patient looking for an IV experience that lasts approximately 20 minutes, our “Energy Fast Bag” is a great choice. If you are an established patient here at Spark Health, and would like to get a full size IV, our “Energize” IV is made just for you. This vitamin IV is packed full of nutrients to help nourish the body, prevent cellular damage, support healthy energy levels, and rebuild muscle.

WHAT ARE THE MAJOR ENERGY-PRODUCERS IN THIS IV?

TAURINE

Taurine, which is normally found in meat, fish, and dairy, is an amino acid that is great for improving energy and athletic performance. Not only is not only wonderful for supporting muscle tissue, but it is also a powerful antioxidant. Taurine can also help increase your endurance as an athlete. It has been shown in research that just 7 days of taurine supplementation resulted in significant increases in VO2 max and cycle ergometer exercise time to exhaustion; most likely due to taurine’s superior antioxidant activity and its ability to improve cellular protection. Taurine has also been shown in research to protect the cardiovascular system. It has also been shown to have a modulatory effect on the neurological system and can improve sleep quality. Sleeping better at night means more energy in the daytime. (2,3)

L-CARNITINE

L-carnitine is the ultimate amino acid for improving energy! It drastically improves the function of mitochondria, our body’s tiny energy producing machines which are located in all of our cells. Our muscles are packed full of these tiny energy machines, so when these are working optimally, we perform at our best. The other tissues that contain a lot of mitochondria are our nerves, our brain, and our heart, so supplementation of L-carnitine aids these tissues as well. L-carnitine is an important building block for certain neurotransmitters that are needed for optimal cognitive functioning, giving us the mental energy we require to properly match our physical energy levels. (1)

ESSENTIAL AND NON-ESSENTIAL AMINO ACIDS

Amino Acids are the basic building blocks of every protein in our body. There are two types of amino acids: essential and non-essential. Our bodies can’t create the essential amino acids, so we have to rely on food or supplementation to receive them. And although our bodies can synthesize the non-essential amino acids, we are often depleted of them. These amino acids are important for supporting all of the body’s biochemical processes, so  we add a generous dose of amino acids to our “Energize” Vitamin IV.

VITAMIN C

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) supports healthy adrenal gland function. The adrenal glands produce hormones that help modulate our stress response, and also play a role in producing sex hormones. It happens that the adrenal glands require a large amount of vitamin C (ascorbic acid) in order to properly make these hormones! When our adrenal glands are not functioning properly, it can lead to fatigue and low energy levels. (4) Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is particularly difficult to supplement in large amounts without digestive side effects, which makes it an awesome addition to our energizing IVs.

B VITAMINS

The “Energize” vitamin IV contains lots of B-vitamins, which are fantastic for energy support. B vitamins tend to be very depleted in times of stress and fatigue. B5 (dexpanthenol) is a component of the coenzymes that help our body process the nutrients we use for fuel (such as fats, carbs, and protein), and fuel gives us energy! B12 (methylcobalamin) is also fantastic for supporting energy levels. It helps with the conversion of your food into energy. At Spark Health, we use Methylcobalamin, the form of vitamin B12 that can be utilized immediately by the body. This is crucial for those who have MTHFR genetic mutations that make it difficult to convert certain vitamins into their active forms.
